| Dear Kara,
I think what I most like about Penn-Dutch is the atmosphere;
every time I visit the store, it's like walking into a bazaar.
One mingles with a throng of shoppers, all of whom are pushing
carts so laden with with meats and produce that it becomes
obvious that freshness is all but guaranteed, due to turnover.
Prices are truly bizarre. Nova lox @ $9.98
per pound! Preposterous! And, it's superior to any lox I've
ever eaten, at $25.00 per pound. Your fresh sausage,
hot or mild, at $1.29 per pound is astounding. Supermarket
prices range from $2.99 - $3.99 per pound, and Lord only knows
how long it's been sitting in the cooler case. The Kassler
ripchen (smoked pork chops) are first class, and price-wise
a mere 25% - 30% of what supermarkets and specialty shops
charge.
There is almost a party-like atmosphere
at the store, where scores of employees are busy replenishing
shelves and cases, but never too busy to be truly polite and
helpful. It is really remarkable. Your training, marketing,
and management techniques must surely be the envy of all of
your competition. Kudos for everyone involved!
What I don't like about Penn-Dutch: mmm.....
What's not to like??!!

Kara,
Recently
I was sharing stories with a co-worker about my experiences
during the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. She told me
that it the people at Penn-Dutch might like it, so here it is.
After
the storm damage restoration had begun, it was my second day
back to work after about a week and a half off. While at
the office my girlfriend called me with a request, “bring
home some chicken breast” she just spoke to her mother who
gave her a great new recipe that she wanted to try out.
I told her that I’d try, but most all of the grocery stores
meat departments were completely empty. So that night
after work I first tried Wal-Mart on Atlantic Blvd. in
Margate, I new they were open operating with a very large
generator. I went in and found the meat department
empty. Next I tried the Publix on Lyons Road and Coconut
Creek Parkway, their shelves too were bare. I called my
girlfriend and gave her the bad news. Her reply was that
she thought the local Publix in Winston Park was operating
“try their” so being the good boyfriend, I tried there and
found absolutely NO MEAT. Then I thought to myself
“were can I find meat” The next thing I knew I was
in your Margate location, as I hurried past the produce
department, and past the deli counter, wondering “do they
have meat” As I closed in on the Meat Department I saw racks
of meat being pushed out onto the sales floor by a few
employees, I thought to myself, “do they have chicken?”
I got to the Poultry area and was amazed to see all the
chicken that anyone could possibly want. I immediately
called my girlfriend to ask “how much chicken do you want”
as one of the meat department employees listened on, I told
her Penn-Dutch has everything you could want. Her reply
was “you should have done there first” After I hung
up the employee asked “The Wife?” I replied “yup”.
After selecting a couple of packages of chicken breasts I
thought, “better buy meat for the week” so I grabbed a few
nice steaks, some hamburger and some pork chops. It was
then that I realized that your store had everything, as if the
storm didn’t effect Penn-Dutch at all, I went back to the
produce department grabbed some fresh veggies, continued
through the store and bought about $70 worth of groceries, and
all I needed was some chicken.
I
just wanted to thank you and all of your employees for making
life a little easier after the storm. I can only assume
that your store in Margate has a large generator so that
“disasters” like Wilma don’t hurt you too badly, and
keep you up and running for the community. From now on,
my first stop is “Penn-Dutch”
Thank
you again.

Kara-
It would be interesting for
you to do a study of your sales, I live in Delray Beach and
I have a friend in Boca Raton. We appreciate the quality
of your Black Angus beef and when you have a sale we each
buy a crayovac and to make a good day even better, we buy
a couple of hundred dollars worth of your other offerings
and then freeze it.
Certainly we are not by ourselves, we are "long distance"
customers and I would bet you have others like us. We do
not "cherry pick" your specials and go home, we have made
the trip and the quality is excellent so we buy a lot. I
wish you had a store up in Palm Beach County.

Dear Kara-
I have to tell you that I went to your store today to pick
up lunch and I bought one of those rotisserie chickens. I
brought back the chicken and ate it at my desk. IT WAS DELICIOUS.
Everyone who walked by asked where that delicious smell was
coming from so, I told them where to get their own! :) Have
a great weekend.
Sincerely, Sharon
